Halloween in Naperville, IL 2026

Naperville's Halloween runs a full week before the big night: a 21+ bash and a brand-new family festival at Naper Settlement, the Park District's free Halloween Happening, pumpkins racing down Rotary Hill, ghost tours through the Historic District — and then trick-or-treating on Saturday, October 31, on the city's own unwritten schedule. One honest heads-up: Naper Settlement's All Hallows Eve is not on the 2026 calendar. Everything below is verified for 2026 from official and organizer sources.

Trick-or-treat in Naperville — the honest answer on hours

Halloween falls on Saturday, October 31, 2026 — and Naperville does not set official trick-or-treat hours. There is no city ordinance designating a start and stop time (some Illinois towns legislate one; Naperville doesn't), and no official hours notice had been published when we checked on October 18. Sites that quote you exact "official Naperville trick-or-treat hours" are inventing them. The night runs on neighborhood custom instead:

  • Timing: most families head out mid-to-late afternoon on Saturday, and most porch lights go off by about 8 PM.
  • Porch light rule: light on means that house is handing out candy — light off means skip it.
  • Costumes: the Park District's guidance for its own Halloween event is a good rule for the street too — family-friendly costumes, masks that let the eyes be fully seen with clear peripheral vision, and no props that could be mistaken for real weapons.
  • On the road: a Saturday Halloween means heavier foot traffic than a weeknight — drivers, slow down on residential streets from mid-afternoon; kids, flashlights and glow sticks once it gets dark, and have an adult check the haul before anyone digs in.

If the city or the police department publish specific 2026 guidance before Halloween, we'll update this section.

Naperville Hauntings Ghost ToursSat nights

The genuinely spooky option. Diane Ladley's Naperville Hauntings has run since 2004: a two-hour, lantern-lit walk through Naperville's Historic District where every guest carries an EMF ghost meter and the stories come from the operator's own paranormal archives. Tours leave Saturday nights at 8 PM from outside Quigley's Irish Pub; the remaining dates are October 24 and Halloween night itself, October 31. The content is graphic in places — the operator advises knowing your child's fright tolerance. The walk is about 10 blocks, with seating at the midpoint.

When: Saturdays 8:00–10:00 PM — Oct 24 & Oct 31 remain
Meet: Outside Quigley's Irish Pub, 43 E Jefferson Ave
Cost: $25 per adult · $20 child (8–17), senior & military · Book ahead — October dates sell out

What's different in 2026

  • No All Hallows Eve this year. The scare nights that ran at Naper Settlement in past Octobers are not on the Settlement's 2026 event calendar (checked October 18). The Settlement's Halloween weekend this year is Howlin' at the Moon (21+) and the new Family Spooktacular — both above. If you plan your October around All Hallows Eve, re-plan around those two.
  • Already over — don't drive out for them. Two fixtures from earlier in the month have already run for 2026: Trick or Treat at Safety Town (Naperville Junior Woman's Club, was Saturday, October 17) and Benedictine University's public haunted house in neighboring Lisle (was October 16–17). Both are done until next year.
  • Halloween is a Saturday. A weekend Halloween means the organized events cluster the weekend before (October 23–25) rather than competing with the night itself — and neighborhood trick-or-treating starts earlier and runs heavier than on a school night.

Good to know

  • Stack Sunday: the Halloween Hop (10 AM–12 PM) flows straight into Halloween Happening (1–4 PM) on October 25 — one downtown trip covers both, and both are free.
  • Pick two on Saturday: Pumpkin Palooza (9 AM–2 PM), Family Spooktacular (10 AM–2 PM), and the Pumpkin Race (12–3 PM) overlap on October 24. Palooza plus the race is the easiest pairing; Spooktacular deserves its own block.
  • Book the night stuff early: the ghost tours' operator says October dates sell out quickly, and Naper Settlement's Howlin' at the Moon is ticketed ($25) — buy before the weekend, not at the gate.
  • SCARE-illon seating: there's no reserved seating for the free concert — the Park District suggests bringing your own chairs and blankets for Rotary Hill.
  • Pumpkin patches: there's no pick-your-own patch inside Naperville, so we put the farms families actually drive to — Sonny Acres (West Chicago), Abbey Farms (Aurora), Keller's (Oswego), Johansen Farms (Bolingbrook), Bengtson's (Homer Glen) — in one pumpkin patches roundup, verified from each farm's own site.

Halloween FAQ

What time is trick-or-treating in Naperville on Halloween 2026?

Naperville does not set official trick-or-treat hours — there is no city ordinance with a start and stop time, and no official hours notice had been published when we checked on October 18, 2026. Halloween falls on Saturday, October 31, 2026, and the night runs on neighborhood custom: most families head out mid-to-late afternoon, and most porch lights go off by about 8 p.m. Porch light on means that house is handing out candy; light off means skip it.

What are the best Naperville Halloween events for little kids in 2026?

The Park District's free Halloween Happening (Sunday, October 25, 1–4 p.m., Riverwalk Grand Pavilion) is built for children 10 and under. Naper Settlement's new Family Spooktacular (October 24–25) is the not-so-scary daytime festival, and DuPage Children's Museum's Pumpkin Palooza (Saturday, October 24, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.) promises no scary surprises — costumes welcome, and it's included with museum admission.

Is there a Halloween event for adults in Naperville in 2026?

Yes — Howlin' at the Moon at Naper Settlement, Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24, 2026, 5–10 p.m. It's strictly 21+ (IDs are checked), costs $25, and features live music, a costume contest, fire dancers, a Moonlight Market, and the Food Truck Graveyard & BOOze Bar.

Are there haunted houses in Naperville in 2026?

Naperville has no big commercial haunted house of its own this year. The fright-free option is the haunted house inflatable at Family Spooktacular, and the genuinely spooky option is the Naperville Hauntings ghost tour — a two-hour lantern-lit walk through the Historic District on Saturday nights at 8 p.m., including October 24 and Halloween night. Benedictine University's haunted house in neighboring Lisle already ran for 2026, on October 16–17.

What happened to All Hallows Eve at Naper Settlement?

It is not on Naper Settlement's 2026 event calendar — we checked the Settlement's official calendar on October 18, 2026, and its Halloween weekend this year is Howlin' at the Moon (21+, October 23–24) and the new Family Spooktacular (October 24–25). If the Settlement announces a separate scare event, we will update this page.
