The DuPage Water Commission is building a 30-mile water main extension to bring Lake Michigan water to Montgomery, Oswego and Yorkville — six of those miles run through Naperville. Phase one installs a 54-inch main beneath Book Road, and residents are asked to follow the posted detour routes.

North Aurora Road Widening & Railroad BridgeActive

The corridor is being widened to two lanes in each direction plus a center turn lane, trail and sidewalk, and the roughly 110-year-old Canadian National/Wisconsin Central railroad bridge is being replaced. The earlier full closure between Pennsbury Lane and Frontenac Road has been lifted and the road is open to all traffic; drainage, storm sewer and utility relocation work (including a new Nicor gas main and ComEd line moves) continues through the fall, and the city advises more closures will be needed next year.

Location: North Aurora Road, between Illinois 59 and Eola Road
Driver impact: Occasional daytime lane closures through the fall
Timeline: Bridge phase began fall 2025; anticipated finish late 2027 (city update, Aug. 3, 2026)

The Illinois Tollway is upgrading the toll plaza at the Freedom Drive/Naperville Road interchange on the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88), part of its systemwide toll plaza improvement program. Traffic on the ramp is currently reduced to a single lane, and the Tollway schedules periodic ramp closures — most recently an overnight full closure of the ramp to westbound I-88 for tolling equipment installation (midnight Sat, Oct. 3 to 5 a.m. Sun, Oct. 4), with no detour posted.

Construction FAQ

Is Illinois Route 59 closed in Naperville?

No — IDOT lists the impact of the Route 59 resurfacing between McCoy Drive and Artesian Road as daytime lane closures, not a full closure. Expect delays during the day while the resurfacing, patching and ADA ramp work runs through fall 2026.

Is Book Road closed in Naperville?

Sections of it are. The DuPage Water Commission's WaterLink pipeline closes Book Road fully, one section at a time, between just north of 75th Street and 103rd Street — the whole stretch is never closed at once, and the city asks drivers to follow the posted detour routes. Work along Book Road is expected to continue into the spring of 2027.

How long will the Ogden Avenue lane closures last?

The city's October 8, 2026 update says the Ogden and Washington water main replacement is scheduled for completion by the end of November, with ongoing lane closures and traffic pattern changes until then. Crews generally work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
