Christmas in Naperville, IL — the 2026 Guide

Naperville's Christmas season runs on the Park District: three weeks of Santa's Workshop, a free call from Santa himself, and a stack of one-day holiday programs — plus the region's biggest light show ten minutes away in Lisle. Two honest changes this year: there is no Christkindlmarket in Naperville (the closest is Aurora) and the Parade of Lights has been canceled. Everything below is verified for 2026, with the not-yet-announced items clearly flagged.

Nov 30–Dec 20 — Santa's Workshop dates
Oct 20, noon — resident registration opens
Nov 14 — Illumination opens in Lisle
Updated October 18, 2026

How to use this page: confirmed 2026 events come first, each with its official source named on the card. Two seasonal fixtures that had not announced 2026 dates when we checked on October 18 — Naper Lights and Naper Settlement's Yuletide Festival — are in the "still to be announced" section at the bottom, with no dates claimed. Coming from the earlier holidays? See Thanksgiving in Naperville 2026, our Halloween guide, the daily events calendar, and road alerts for the drive.

We walk through every date in our Santa's Workshop registration guide.

The German Christmas market — in Aurora this year

Christkindlmarket AuroraNov 20–Dec 24

First, the honest part: there is no Christkindlmarket in Naperville in 2026. The market's three Chicagoland locations this year are Daley Plaza in Chicago, Gallagher Way in Wrigleyville, and RiverEdge Park in Aurora — and Aurora's is an easy trip from Naperville: an open-air German-style market of gift stalls, bratwurst, spiced wine and the year's collectible mug, on the Fox River.

When: Fri Nov 20 – Thu Dec 24, 2026 · Thu 11 AM–7 PM · Fri–Sat 11 AM–9 PM · Sun 11 AM–6 PM
Special hours: Open Wed Nov 25 (11–7), Thanksgiving Day & Christmas Eve (11 AM–4 PM), and Mon–Wed Dec 21–23 (11–7)

Illumination — Morton Arboretum, LisleNov 14–Jan 2

The region's headline light show is in neighboring Lisle: a one-mile, ADA-accessible trail through 22 light displays for the Arboretum's 14th Illumination season. New this year: a 400-foot canopy inspired by the northern lights, and the Pine Whistle Railroad — nearly 1,000 feet of model trains in the Firefly Pavilion (a $9 add-on, $7 for members; ages 3 and under free). Dog Admission Nights run Dec 2, 9, 16 and Jan 1, and a low-sensory Sensory Night is Tue Nov 17.

What's different in 2026

  • No Parade of Lights this year. The Rotary Club of Naperville has canceled the 2026 Holiday Parade of Lights — the downtown tradition, more than two decades old, that was traditionally held the Friday night after Thanksgiving. According to a City of Naperville staff report, the club ended the event because of the high cost of producing it relative to its return (reported by the Naperville Sun, February 24, 2026). If your family usually kicks off the season at the parade, the season's new opening night is effectively the Christkindlmarket's first weekend in Aurora and Illumination's opening in Lisle — both start before Thanksgiving.
  • No Naperville Christkindlmarket. The market is not at Naper Settlement in 2026; its Chicagoland homes this year are Chicago (Daley Plaza), Wrigleyville, and Aurora. The Aurora market, details above, is the one Naperville families will actually use.
  • Santa registration starts earlier than the season feels. Santa's Workshop and Santa's Hotline both open for residents at noon on Tuesday, October 20 — before Halloween. Popular weekend slots go first, per the Park District.

Still to be announced — checked October 18, 2026

  • Naper Lights (downtown). Naperville Sunrise Rotary's free light-and-music display along Water Street, Foyo Plaza, Jaycees Park and the Riverwalk traditionally runs from Thanksgiving through New Year's. As of October 18, the organizers had not posted 2026 dates on naperlights.com — check there before planning a trip around it. We claim no dates for it yet.
  • Yuletide Festival at Naper Settlement. In recent years Naper Settlement has hosted a free December Yuletide Festival — holiday market, food vendors and lighted grounds — on December weekends. As of October 18, neither Naper Settlement nor the festival's producer had announced 2026 dates; watch napersettlement.org/events. Its other holiday programming, if announced, will be added here.

Driving between any of it? Check the Naperville construction & road alerts — the Book Road closures and Route 59 lane reductions run into December.
