Santa's Workshop Naperville: Registration Opens Oct. 20
Santa's Workshop Naperville registration opens at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 20 for residents — and the Park District is explicit that early registration is recommended. Here is every date to pick from, the free alternative, and the next registration deadline right behind it.

This is a decision you make in October for a night in December. Santa's Workshop runs for 21 dates from Monday, Nov. 30 through Sunday, Dec. 20, reservations are required, and walk-ups will not be accommodated. If your family wants a specific night — a weekend, Pet Night, or the military and first responders night — the time to choose is when registration opens, not when the decorations go up. The same noon opening also covers Santa's Hotline, which is free.
Santa's Workshop Naperville registration: resident and nonresident dates
Residents: Tuesday, Oct. 20 at noon
Registration for both Santa's Workshop and Santa's Hotline starts Tuesday, Oct. 20 at noon for Naperville Park District residents, through the Park District's registration site.
Nonresidents: Thursday, Oct. 22 at noon
Nonresident registration opens two days later, Thursday, Oct. 22 at noon. The Park District's Oct. 7 announcement recommends registering early for both holiday favorites — popular time slots go first.
Pick your Santa's Workshop night: all 21 dates, side by side
The pattern is simple once you see it laid out. Weeknights run 5–8 p.m.; the three weekends run longer, noon–8 p.m. Two nights are set aside for specific groups, and every other date is general public.
- General public, weeknights 5–8 p.m.: Nov. 30, Dec. 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18.
- General public, weekends noon–8 p.m.: Saturday–Sunday, Dec. 5–6, Dec. 12–13 and Dec. 19–20.
- Pet Night: Tuesday, Dec. 1, 5–8 p.m.
- Military and First Responders Night: Wednesday, Dec. 9, 5–8 p.m.
Know how the visit itself works before you book. One family at a time goes inside the workshop for a short conversation with Santa. There is no professional photographer — families take their own photos and video, so bring a charged phone. And the line queues outdoors, so dress for December weather even though the visit is inside. If you are still in Halloween mode, the Park District's free Halloween Happening on Oct. 25 comes first — Santa can wait a week, the noon opening cannot.
The free option: Santa's Hotline on Dec. 9
Santa's Hotline — free, one registration per family
Instead of a visit, your child gets a personal phone call from Santa Claus or Mrs. Claus, addressed by name, with a conversation about gift ideas. Registration is free and is per family rather than per child, but spots are limited and the Park District advises reserving early. Note the overlap: the Hotline calls happen the same evening as the Workshop's Military and First Responders Night, so a family eligible for both has to pick one Dec. 9 plan.
Next deadline: winter basketball registration on Nov. 3 and Nov. 5
Two weeks after Santa registration, the Park District opens its other big winter signup. Winter Naperville Youth Basketball runs January through March, with registration at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 3 for residents and Thursday, Nov. 5 for nonresidents. Space is limited, and the choice that matters is how you register:
Register as an individual — kindergarten through 8th grade
Individual registration is open from kindergarten (coed) through 8th grade. You pick a preferred practice location and day, but placement on the same team as last season is not guaranteed — new teams are formed each season.
Register as a team — 3rd through 8th grade only
One representative registers the team and pays the team fee, then players complete a team waiver once they get the team's activity code. Teams are capped at 10 players, nonresident players are charged $20 when they complete the waiver, and registered teams usually play in a separate division. This is a recreation program — travel and competitive teams are not allowed.
Budget for one extra cost either way: a reversible game jersey is required and is sold at the Fort Hill Activity Center for $18, not included in the registration fee. Game days are set by grade — kindergarten and 1st grade play Saturdays at school gyms, 2nd through 4th grade play Saturdays at Fort Hill, and 5th through 8th grade play Sundays at Fort Hill. The winter season has 9 games, compared with 7 in fall. Every team also needs at least one volunteer head coach; no experience is required, and the district provides practice plans and referees.
After that: the Winter 2027 guide lands Dec. 2
If neither Santa nor basketball is your family's thing, the next decision point is Wednesday, Dec. 2, when the Park District releases its Winter 2027 Program Guide online. That is the catalog the rest of winter registration is built from, so Dec. 2 is the date to browse before the next round of signups begins.
