Naperville Trolley Halloween Light Tours: $28.75–$34.50
The Naperville Trolley Halloween light tours run through Oct. 31 on three routes — and the same tour costs $34.50 this weekend but $28.75 on Oct. 26, 27 and 28. Here are the routes, the meeting points, and the rules that catch families out.

If you want to see Naperville's best Halloween houses without driving yourself, the Naperville Trolley Halloween light tours are the decision to make this week. Tours run tonight, Oct. 22, and on Oct. 23, 24, 25, 29, 30 and 31 at the higher price — and Monday through Wednesday, Oct. 26–28, at the lower one. Every route costs the same; what changes is the night and the side of town you board on. Pair it with Saturday's free Naperville Pumpkin Race — our Oct. 23–25 Halloween events comparison prices the rest of the weekend.
The three Naperville Trolley Halloween light tour routes, compared
Northern Tour — meets at Gemato's Wood Pit BBQ, 1566 W. Ogden Ave.
The northern route covers the side of town generally north of 75th Street. In the trolley's own FAQ, the northern tour has more of a residential feel, with homes closer together — the densest house-to-house viewing of the three.
Eastern Tour — meets at Freedom Brothers Pizzeria, 1293 S. Naper Blvd.
The eastern route covers the east side of town, plus some homes from the north and south routes — some homes appear on multiple tours. One warning from the operator: this tour meets in Naperville, not Plainfield, no matter what a search result tells you.
Southern Tour — meets at 2835 Showplace Drive, by Bar Louie
The southern route covers the side of town generally south of 75th Street. The trolley's FAQ describes a little more "street time" on this one, because south Naperville homes are more spread out — fewer stops per mile, more riding between displays.
Naperville Trolley Halloween tour prices: the night decides
- $34.50 per person: Oct. 22, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30 and 31 — that is $30 plus a $4.50 driver gratuity, plus an online booking fee.
- $28.75 per person: Oct. 26, 27 and 28 — that is $25 plus a $3.75 gratuity, plus the same booking fee. These are the last three discount nights of the Halloween season.
- Family of four: $138.00 on a weekend night vs. $115.00 on Oct. 26–28 — a $23.00 saving for the identical tour, before the booking fee either way.
- No child price, no lap-infant exception: every person needs a ticket, in the operator's words, "every heartbeat counts as one" — a baby on your lap costs the same $28.75 or $34.50 as an adult.
There is no wrong route, but there is a wrong night for your budget. If your kids can stay up on a school night, Monday to Wednesday is the cheapest Halloween outing left on the calendar. If the weekend is the only option, book now rather than later — reservations are the only way on, and there are no walk-ins.
The rules that surprise people on Naperville Trolley tours
- Non-refundable and non-transferable: no refunds or credits, even if someone is ill or injured. The terms do allow you to substitute another person in a seat you cannot use.
- Arrive at least 10 minutes early at your route's meeting point, with the reservation holder's state-issued ID. The trolley departs promptly; late arrivals board only after all named reservations are called.
- No food or candy on board. Drinks are allowed only if sealed with a lid. No coolers and no strollers; no pets except service dogs.
- Stay seated, mostly: guests must remain seated while riding, and adults sit with their children. At some homes you may get out to look closer — from the sidewalk or driveway only, never on the grass or inside a display.
- Weather is not a reason to skip: the trolley is fully enclosed and operates in all weather. Windows may fog — paper towels are provided — and any music or narration piped from a home depends on that homeowner's system, which the trolley does not control.
- Booking the whole trolley changes nothing: even reserving all 28 spots on a public tour keeps the same meeting point and the same per-person price.
Which route, and which night, should you pick?
Pick by where you live and how your kids do with riding time. North-side families get the shortest trip to the Gemato's meeting point and the closest-together houses; south-side families board at Naperville Crossings and should expect a bit more riding between displays; east-side families get the Freedom Brothers start and a route that borrows some of the best homes from the other two. If cost matters most, any route on Oct. 26, 27 or 28 beats any route this weekend by $5.75 a head.
Miss Halloween entirely and the same idea returns for the holidays: the trolley's December holiday light tours use the same two totals — $28.75 on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9, and $34.50 on the other listed nights through Dec. 23 on the eastern route's booking page. Our Christmas in Naperville guide tracks the rest of that season, and the full month sits on our Naperville events page and Halloween in Naperville guide.
