Naperville Pumpkin Race 2026: $25 Kits, Free Entry
The Naperville Pumpkin Race returns this Saturday, Oct. 24, for its 10th anniversary — free to watch and free to race at Rotary Hill, with $25 racer kits, community heats from 1 to 2 p.m., and parking that has changed for 2026.

If you only do one thing from our Oct. 23–25 Halloween events comparison, make it this: the Naperville Pumpkin Race is the weekend's only event where entering costs nothing, the whole thing is over in three hours, and the decision you actually have to make is this week — whether to build a racer before Saturday, or just show up and cheer.
10th Annual Naperville Pumpkin Race — Rotary Hill, 443 Aurora Ave., Naperville
This is not a footrace. You turn a real pumpkin into a four-wheeled racer and send it head-to-head down the course in a single-elimination tournament, beside the Millennium Carillon on the Naperville Riverwalk. Trophies and awards go to the fastest racers, the best-decorated pumpkins, and standout costumes. Food vendors and face painting round out the afternoon.
Naperville Pumpkin Race schedule, hour by hour
- Noon: Registration opens. Arrive in this window if you are racing — you still need to build or finish your racer.
- 12:30 p.m.: Races begin with Turning Pointe classroom entries.
- 1:00–2:00 p.m.: Community heats — this is the window for most families who enter.
- 2:00 p.m.: Costume contest and pumpkin decorating contest. Costume age groups are 0–5, 6–10, 11–15, and 16+. Note: Pumpkin Pit Row, where racers are assembled, closes at 2 p.m. — no late builds.
- 2:15 p.m.: Business-league races.
- 2:30–3:00 p.m.: Quarterfinals, semifinals, and the championship race.
Just spectating? The sweet spot is 1 to 3 p.m.: you get the community heats, both contests, and the final in one visit, without the noon registration crush.
What a pumpkin racer kit costs — and what is actually free
- Watching: free. Admission is free for everyone.
- Racing: free. Participation itself costs nothing.
- Racer kit: $25. Turning Pointe sells kits with the axles, wheels, bearings, and hardware you need to turn a pumpkin into a racer. Pumpkins and kits will also be available at the event while supplies last — which is exactly why buying ahead beats gambling on Saturday stock.
- Where the $25 goes: the kits are assembled by Turning Pointe students and adults as part of its vocational education programs, and proceeds support the Naperville nonprofit's programs for children, teens, and adults with autism. The race lands in October, National Disability Employment Awareness Month — the kit is the fundraiser, not the ticket.
Parking has changed for the Naperville Pumpkin Race in 2026
Do not default to last year's plan. Turning Pointe specifically notes that parking has changed for 2026 and recommends designated parking at St. John's Episcopal Church, the Naperville Municipal Parking Garage, the Water Street Parking Garage, Centennial Beach parking, and street parking near Naper Settlement. With registration at noon and community heats at 1 p.m., build in extra time to park and walk to Rotary Hill.
One more Saturday surprise: the Park District says the normally scheduled Saturday Millennium Carillon recital will not take place on Oct. 24, so do not plan your visit around the regular noon performance from the 72-bell tower.
The Bronco raffle winner is announced at the race
The 10th anniversary adds a second fundraiser: Turning Pointe will announce the winner of its 2026 Ford Bronco Sport Big Bend raffle during Saturday's event. Only 2,000 tickets will be sold, sales are limited to Illinois residents, and buyers must be at least 18. The foundation's listings price tickets at $100 for one and $275 for three. The Bronco was donated by McCarthy Ford Chicago and is on display at its dealership at 11400 S. Pulaski Road in Chicago. You do not need a raffle ticket to attend the race — but if you bought one, Saturday at Rotary Hill is where you find out.
Make it a full Saturday without double-booking
The race overlaps two other Saturday events in our Halloween weekend guide: Family Spooktacular at Naper Settlement (10 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturday) and Pumpkin Palooza at DuPage Children's Museum (9 a.m.–2 p.m.). The workable stack is Spooktacular in the morning, then the Pumpkin Race finals at 2:30 p.m. — Naper Settlement is a short walk from Rotary Hill. Still need the pumpkin itself? Our pumpkin patches near Naperville comparison prices seven farms, several of which close Oct. 30–31. More listings are on our Naperville events page.
