Christkindlmarket Aurora 2026: Dates, Hours & Parking

There is no Naperville market this year — the suburban Christkindlmarket lives in Aurora, about 20 minutes west. It opens Friday, November 20, admission is free, and the parking choice matters more than the shopping list.

Every November the same question lands in Naperville inboxes: where is the Christkindlmarket this year? The honest answer, as we note in our Naperville Christmas guide, is that Christkindlmarket Aurora 2026 is the suburban edition — at RiverEdge Park in downtown Aurora, returning for its fifth year. It is the largest of the market’s three locations, with more than 60 vendors, and the one Naperville families can drive to on a weeknight. Here is the full plan: dates, hours, what is new, and the four parking options compared — including the free one most visitors drive right past.

Christkindlmarket Aurora 2026 dates and hours

Christkindlmarket Aurora — Nov. 20 to Dec. 24, RiverEdge Park

The market runs Thursdays through Sundays from Friday, November 20 through Thursday, December 24, at RiverEdge Park, 360 N. Broadway in Aurora. Admission is free. It is closed Mondays through Wednesdays most weeks, so check the day before you set out.

Thursdays 11 a.m.–7 p.m. · Fridays & Saturdays 11 a.m.–9 p.m. · Sundays 11 a.m.–6 p.m.

Special hours: Wed. Nov. 25, 11 a.m.–7 p.m. · Thanksgiving (Thu. Nov. 26) and Christmas Eve (Thu. Dec. 24), 11 a.m.–4 p.m. · Mon. Dec. 21–Wed. Dec. 23, 11 a.m.–7 p.m.

Two planning notes hide in those hours. The market is open on Thanksgiving Day itself, but only until 4 p.m. And the final stretch, December 21–23, opens Monday through Wednesday as a last-chance run before the short Christmas Eve session closes the season.

What is new at the Aurora market this year

The Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau calls this the largest market German American Events has organized there, spread across RiverEdge Park’s expanded campus. Returning staples include bratwurst, schnitzel and poffertjes (the tiny Dutch pancakes), mulled wine in the market’s signature mugs, and handmade ornaments. New arrivals include A Little Slice of Europe with European cheeses, Biró Kürtős serving chimney cakes, and Steincenter with steins, plus new dishes such as s’mores and sautéed mushrooms.

One honest caveat: RiverEdge Park is mid-upgrade. Organizers say guests may notice construction this season, alongside finished improvements including a new 16-station beverage pavilion, an expanded entrance and a new restroom building. The heated Timber Tent remains the warm-up base, with live music and family activities — the place to thaw between shopping rounds.

Christkindlmarket Aurora parking, compared

Parking is where an Aurora trip is won or lost. The market’s official parking page lists four options:

Free — Lot Y, 125 N. River St.

The only free lot. It sits on the west side of the Fox River and connects to RiverEdge Park by the pedestrian bridge. Arriving early in the day? Try here first.

Free · 125 N. River St., Aurora, IL 60506 · Pedestrian bridge into the park

Best value — Aurora Transportation Center overflow lot, $3

Three dollars, a short pedestrian tunnel under the tracks, and you surface at the main station lot directly across from RiverEdge Park. Handicap parking is available.

$3 · 130 N. Lincoln Ave., Aurora, IL 60505 · ParkMobile Zone #3406

Closest — Aurora Transportation Center main lot, $10

The lot at the Metra station, directly across from the park. The organizers warn that space is limited, so it fills first on peak nights.

$10 · 233 N. Broadway, Aurora, IL 60505 · ParkMobile Zone #3404

West-bank alternative — River Street lots, $10

Lots W, X and A on River Street, north of New York Street, on the west side of the river. Enter the park over the new pedestrian bridge. Handicap parking is available.

$10 · 309 N. River St., Aurora, IL 60506 · Pedestrian bridge into the park

Whichever lot you choose, actually pay: the pay stations take cards or exact-change cash only, and the market’s page is blunt that unpaid cars are ticketed. With a free lot and a $3 lot on the list, the $10 lots are a convenience purchase, not a necessity.

Or skip parking entirely: take Metra’s BNSF line

The market’s own advice is to ride the BNSF Metra line to the Aurora Transportation Center at 233 N. Broadway — the end of the line — then walk a short way north on North Broadway to RiverEdge Park. Naperville riders are on that same BNSF line, which makes this the one big holiday outing where nobody has to be the designated driver. When to go: the quietest windows

These are planning tips, not promises — but the hours tell the story. Thursday at the 11 a.m. opening is the calmest version of this market: full vendor lineup, shortest food lines, home before dinner. Sunday mornings run second. Friday and Saturday evenings, open to 9 p.m. with the lights at their best, are the peak — go then for atmosphere, and eat before or after the 6 p.m. rush.
