Fort Hill Activity Center Membership Cost: Worth It?
The Fort Hill Activity Center membership cost is $35 a month for a Naperville resident — against a $10 daily pass that covers less than you think. Here is the tier-by-tier math, the enrollment-fee traps, and two cheaper routes most people miss.

Start with the Fort Hill Activity Center membership cost itself — outdoor running season is ending, and the Park District gym at 20 Fort Hill Dr. is Naperville's default winter option: 8,600+ square feet of fitness floor, 50 cardio pieces, an indoor track, and 50+ group classes a week, all included. Everything below comes from the Park District's own membership, childcare, and fee-assistance pages, checked this week. Fort Hill is also where winter youth basketball plays — see our youth basketball registration guide.
Fort Hill Activity Center membership cost, tier by tier
Individual — $35 / $44 a month
The standard membership. The honest catch in the Park District's own table: paying the year in full costs exactly twelve monthly payments — there is no prepay discount. Monthly EFT is the same money with less commitment.
Senior / Student / Military — $29 / $36.25 a month
The cheapest tier, and the broadest: seniors are 60+, students are 15–23 with full-time status, military means actively enlisted with proof. The trade-off: this tier cannot add members. Kids 12–14 join via Teen Fitness University (two one-hour trainer sessions).
Additional Member — $27.50 / $34.25 a month
The add-on to an Individual membership: a second person 15+ in the same household, $7.50 a month less than a second full membership. Two adults pay $62.50 a month resident; at most two members aged 24+ per membership.
Household — $84 / $105 a month
Two adults plus dependent children ages 15–23 at home. It only beats Individual + Additional Member ($62.50) once a dependent actually uses it — two adults alone overpay $14 a month.
The $10 daily pass changes the Fort Hill membership math
A daily fitness guest pass is $10 for residents, $15 for nonresidents — but it buys the fitness center only; track, group exercise, and open gym passes are sold separately, while membership includes all three. Even on the fitness floor alone, a resident individual membership ($35) beats daily passes on your fourth visit in a month; the $29 senior/student tier and the $44 nonresident individual both win on the third. At three visits a month or less, passes are the honest answer — no enrollment fee, nothing to cancel.
What a Fort Hill fitness membership actually includes
- Hours: Monday–Friday 5:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m., Saturday 6:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m., Sunday 7:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
- Classes included: over 50 group exercise classes a week with nationally certified instructors — no per-class fee.
- Indoor track and open gym included: the track runs 9 laps to the mile — the winter substitute for the Riverwalk.
- Sign-up is in person only at 20 Fort Hill Dr. — there is no online join, so budget one trip to the main desk.
The fees and fine print that decide what you really pay
- Enrollment fees are real: $69 individual, $49 additional, $129 household, $39 senior/student/military — non-refundable, and charged again if your membership lapses over 60 days.
- Cancellation has a deadline: on the EFT plan, your form must be in before midnight on the 10th, or the membership renews on the 15th and runs through the 14th of the next month.
- You can freeze instead: a freeze form exists — worth asking about before a long trip or a summer away, rather than lapsing past 60 days and repaying enrollment.
- Childcare is extra, but member-priced: The Fort childcare (ages 3 months–11 years, max 2 hours a day, you stay in the building) is $5.25 an hour for members versus $7.00 / $8.25, or unlimited monthly at $24 first child, $14 second, capped at $50. Closed Thanksgiving, Nov. 26.
Two cheaper Fort Hill routes most people miss
Check your insurance first. Fort Hill is a SilverSneakers partner — no-cost for Medicare participants 65+ (or qualifying on disability) whose plan includes it — and accepts Prime, the employer-insurance benefit for ages 18+. Either can make the $29–$35 tiers irrelevant.
Fee assistance cuts it to $52.50 a quarter. Approved residents ages 15+ can buy a quarterly membership for $52.50 — about $17.50 a month, half the individual rate. Eligibility runs through SNAP or free school lunch participation, or income within the federal free-lunch limits, with proof of dependents; apply at Fort Hill at least three weeks ahead. Nonrefundable.
So, is a Fort Hill Activity Center membership worth it?
- Twice a week or more: yes — $35 resident beats $10 passes by your fourth monthly visit, with classes, track, and open gym on top.
- Student, senior, or active military: the $29 tier is Naperville's best-value gym deal — check SilverSneakers or Prime first, which may make it $0.
- Two adults: Individual + Additional Member at $62.50 beats the $84 Household plan until a dependent 15–23 joins in.
- Three visits a month or fewer: skip it. Buy $10 daily passes and keep the enrollment fee in your pocket.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a Fort Hill Activity Center membership?
Individual: $35 a month for Park District residents, $44 nonresident. Senior/student/military: $29 / $36.25. Additional member: $27.50 / $34.25. Household: $84 / $105. Enrollment fees run $39–$129 by tier.
Is a Fort Hill membership worth it compared with daily passes?
For residents, yes from your fourth visit in a month: membership is $35, a daily pass is $10 — and the pass covers the fitness center only, while membership includes the track, open gym, and 50+ weekly classes. At three visits a month or fewer, passes are cheaper.
Does paying for a Fort Hill membership a year in full save money?
No. Annual paid-in-full prices are exactly twelve times the monthly rates ($420 individual resident, $348 senior/student/military), so the monthly plan costs the same and keeps your flexibility.
How do I join or cancel a Fort Hill fitness membership?
Memberships are sold in person only at 20 Fort Hill Dr. To cancel an EFT plan, submit the form before midnight on the 10th; later forms renew on the 15th through the 14th of the next month. A freeze form is available for a pause instead.
Is childcare included with a Fort Hill membership?
No, but members pay less: $5.25 an hour versus $7.00 resident / $8.25 nonresident, or unlimited monthly at $24 for the first child, $14 for the second ($50 maximum). It covers ages 3 months–11 years, up to two hours a day, while a parent stays in the facility.
