Naperville Youth Basketball Winter Registration: Nov. 3
Naperville youth basketball registration for the winter season opens Tuesday, Nov. 3 at noon for residents — and the Park District is blunt about what happens next: enrollment is extremely limited, and the popular practice slots go first. Here are the real winter fees, the individual-vs-team decision, and every deadline that matters.

This is the deep dive behind the one line in our Santa's Workshop registration guide: Naperville Youth Basketball (NYBB) runs January through March, with nine games instead of fall's seven — and prices adjusted for the longer season. Everything below comes from the Park District's NYBB page and its official Fall 2026 & Winter 2027 program guide, checked this week. Registration is through napervilleparks.org/napervilleyouthbasketball.
How much Naperville youth basketball costs this winter
Kindergarten (coed) through 2nd grade — $147 / $177
The youngest divisions are the cheapest. Kindergarten listings are marked so that school district residents pay the resident rate — check your listing's footnote when you register.
3rd grade through 8th grade, individual — $167 / $197
Individual registrants pick a preferred practice location and day from the guide's listings, and the district forms new teams each season; you are not guaranteed the same team as last season.
Whole-team registration, 3rd–8th grade — $1,670 per team
At a full roster of ten, the team fee works out to $167 a player — the resident individual price — but your group stays together and typically plays in a separate division. Nonresident players on a team roster owe an extra $20 when they complete the team waiver, and players reimburse the representative their share. No travel or competitive teams are allowed; this is a recreation league.
Winter costs more than fall did ($133/$145 resident) for one simple reason: nine games instead of seven. Budget the jersey on top — it is included in none of the fees above.
Individual or team? The Naperville youth basketball registration choice
Register individually if your player is in kindergarten through 2nd grade (individual is the only route), if you don't have a ready-made group, or if the practice day and location matter most — you choose the slot, the district builds the team. Register a team if you have eight to ten 3rd–8th graders who want to play together: one person registers, pays the $1,670, then receives a unique code so each player can register and sign the waiver. Team practice day, time, and location are assigned afterward from what's available — not guaranteed — and team registrations may be capped based on gym space.
The winter calendar: every date to put down now
- Tuesday, Nov. 3, 12:00 p.m. — resident registration opens (Election Day).
- Thursday, Nov. 5, 12:00 p.m. — nonresident registration opens.
- Monday, Nov. 30 — last day a registered team can withdraw for a refund, minus a $200 processing fee.
- Monday, Dec. 7 — deadline for all winter registrations.
- Week of Jan. 11, 2027 — practices begin.
- Jan. 23 – Mar. 21, 2027 — the nine-game winter season.
One rule catches families out every season: you may register or waitlist for one team only. Double-registered players are dropped from the extra teams, and once you are registered, you are removed from all waitlists without notification. If your first-choice slot fills, the district's own advice is to register for an alternative team that fits your schedule rather than sitting on a waitlist alone.
Game days, practice nights, and the $18 jersey
Practices run one evening a week at school gyms around Naperville — the district assigns sites, and some teams practice at a neighboring school. Games follow a fixed pattern: kindergarten–1st grade plays Saturdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. at school district gyms; 2nd–4th grade plays Saturdays between 7:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the Fort Hill Activity Center; 5th–8th grade plays Sundays from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Fort Hill. If team numbers outgrow Fort Hill, some games move to additional school gyms.
The extra costs are small but real. The required reversible jersey is $18 at the Fort Hill Activity Center (20 Fort Hill Dr.), not included in registration — buy it before the first game. Players bring their own ball to practice, sized by grade: 25.5-inch for kindergarten, 27.5-inch for grades 1–4, 28.5-inch for grades 5–6 and girls 7th–8th, and 29.5-inch for boys 7th–8th.
The coach catch — and the one real perk
Every NYBB coach is a volunteer, and a team cannot exist without one: if no head coach steps up and minimum numbers aren't met, the team is cancelled and families are offered a transfer or a full refund. No experience is required — the district provides weekly practice plans, and referees are provided for all games. The perk is genuinely valuable in a league this tight: coaches who finish in good standing get priority registration for the following year's season. The surest way to never fight the noon rush again is to coach once.
With basketball sorted, the rest of the season is on our Naperville events page.
