DuPage Children's Museum Membership: Is It Worth It?
A DuPage Children's Museum membership costs $175 to $250 for a year of unlimited visits — against $22 a head at the door. Whether it pays off depends on how many people walk in with you, so here is the break-even math, tier by tier.

Indoor season is here, and the DuPage Children's Museum membership question lands on every Naperville family with a kid under eight. The museum, at 301 N. Washington St. downtown, charges the same $22 for children and adults — making a single family visit expensive fast, and the membership math unusually simple. Everything below comes from the museum's own visit, membership, and purchase pages, checked this week. Timing a visit around Halloween? The museum closes early this Saturday, Oct. 31 (9 a.m.–3 p.m.) — the rest of that day is in our Halloween Day in Naperville guide.
Start with the door price: DuPage Children's Museum admission
General admission — $22 per person
There is no child or adult discount: a two-adult, two-kid family pays $88 at the door, or $84 buying online ahead (online tickets save $1 each). A three-person visit is $66. Kids under 1 are free, and parking is free. Hours: Monday–Wednesday and Friday 9 a.m.–4 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m.–8 p.m., Saturday–Sunday 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
The four DuPage Children's Museum membership tiers, priced
DCM Child — $175 a year
The flexible one: the membership belongs to the child, who can bring any adult — a parent one day, a grandparent or nanny the next. A child-plus-adult visit costs $44 at the door, so $175 ÷ $44 puts break-even at four visits — the museum's own "exceeds its value in 4 visits" claim. Best fit: one child, rotating caregivers.
Family Play — $220 a year
The standard family tier. At a full four admissions ($88 a visit), $220 ÷ $88 = 2.5 — it pays for itself on your third visit. The catch is party size: a three-person family pays $66 a visit, and break-even slides to the fourth visit. One named adult cardholder must be present on every visit.
Family Circle — $250 a year
Only $30 more than Family Play, for two extra admissions per visit and a third named cardholder. Bring six people and a visit is worth $132 at the door — break-even lands on the second visit. Even a four-person family breaks even on visit three, same as Family Play, so if grandparents or another adult come along regularly, the extra $30 is the easiest upgrade on this page.
Impact — $500 a year
Same six admissions as Family Circle, priced as philanthropy: each Impact membership gifts two memberships to families in need, and you get three free family passes (up to four admissions each) to share. Buy it to fund access, not for the math.
The two memberships most families miss: $35 and $125
The museum runs two need-based tiers with the same four admissions per visit as Family Play, sold in person only, with proof of participation in a qualifying program. The Welcome Membership is $35 for families in WIC, SNAP, TANF, Access DuPage, Early/Head Start, Medicaid/All Kids, Section 8, or a childcare subsidy — less than one four-person visit at the door. The Thrive Membership is $125 for families connected to Early Intervention, an IEP or 504 plan, foster care, or guardianship. If either list sounds like your household, this is the cheapest indoor season in Naperville.
Perks that change the DuPage Children's Museum membership math
- Members-Only Mornings: members get in at 8 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays, an hour before public opening — the quietest hour of the week.
- Half-price guests: every membership includes 50% off admission for up to four guests per visit — visiting cousins cost $11 a head, not $22.
- Reciprocal admission: Family Play, Family Circle, and Impact include the ACM Reciprocal Network benefit — 50% off admission for up to six people at participating children's museums elsewhere. DCM Child, Thrive, and Welcome are valid at DCM only.
- Discounts stack quietly: members also save on parties, programs, special events, and in the Explorer Store and Café.
- Gift memberships are mailed: gift memberships go out by USPS with no guaranteed delivery date — order early, not the week before.
So, is a DuPage Children's Museum membership worth it for your family?
- One child, whoever's free takes them: DCM Child at $175 — break-even at four visits, and no cardholder juggling.
- Four of you, most visits: Family Play at $220 pays off on visit three. If a third adult ever joins, jump to Family Circle at $250.
- Big crew or two households sharing: Family Circle — six admissions, three cardholders, $30 over the base tier.
- You'll go once or twice a year: skip it. Pay the $22, buy online to save $1 a ticket, and use the Thursday late hours (open until 8 p.m.) to get a full day's play from one admission.
- Qualifying program in the house: Welcome ($35) or Thrive ($125) — join in person with proof.
One last note: the museum sits across from the Naperville Metra station (BNSF line), so a visit pairs easily with the train — and the rest of the week's family options are on our Naperville events page.
