October in Naperville: 13 fall events actually worth leaving the house for

Oktoberfest under the big tent, 8,000 glass pumpkins, candlelight concerts, and the half marathon — every one of these checked against a real listing.

October is Naperville's best month, and this year the calendar agrees. The first weekend alone stacks Oktoberfest at Naper Settlement against a cider festival at the Arboretum — and it keeps going from there. Here's what's actually on, week by week, with the details we could verify.

This weekend: October 2–4

Make it a whole fall day

Pair any of the above with the season's standbys. For pumpkins: Johansen Farms in Bolingbrook (710 W Boughton Rd, ~5 miles — 25,000-pumpkin patch, petting zoo, corn maze, ~$14.95) or Bengtson's Pumpkin Farm in Homer Glen (~15 miles, 50+ attractions). For peak color — typically mid-October around here — the Morton Arboretum publishes a weekly fall color report, and the Riverwalk and Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve are the classic in-town walks. Naperville Public Library's October calendar has storytimes across all three branches plus one-offs like Genealogy Basics on Oct 6 at Nichols.

Good to know

Is Ribfest happening this year?

No — Ribfest was permanently canceled in July 2024 after 35 years. Don't trust old event roundups that still list it.

Where did Christkindlmarket go?

The suburban Christkindlmarket moved to RiverEdge Park in downtown Aurora — worth the trip, but it's not a Naperville event anymore.

Where can I find events updated daily?

Our Naperville events page refreshes every morning, and the Aurora events page covers the neighboring scene.
